Sengkeo's Story
For years, Sengkeo (Sehn-kay-oh) coughed constantly — all day and all night. When she left her home in Laos and arrived in Thailand, doctors there told her that she had tuberculosis. However, years later a physical examination prior to entering the United States showed no sign of tuberculosis. Sengkeo only knew that being treated for lung infections over and over again, and her inability to sleep through the night made life nearly impossible.
But luck was on Sengkeo's side. Once in the United States, her condition was properly diagnosed. She has bronchiectasis, a disease process resulting from progressive lung damage due to frequent, unresolved infections.
